March Parent Newsletter

Dear Parents and Guardians,
As spring approaches we know that the weather can be very unpredictable. However, as much as possible we want for the students to be outside where they can run and play. There have been more and more students coming into the building when they should be on the playground. Sadly we do not have any supervision in the building prior to the beginning of the day and we have had some serious incidents lately where student safety was compromised because they were in places they shouldn't have been. As always, safety of students is our biggest concern. Please take time to remind your students that they must be outside on the playground both in the morning and at recess so that we can insure their safety. Thank you for your help with this.
Sincerely,
Kelli Varney
Principal

Uniforms
We have noticed that many of our students are coming to school without their uniforms more frequently than before. We understand that uniforms aren't in condition to be worn sometimes, but it is school policy to wear uniforms every day. Unfortunately, as a result of so many students not bringing their uniforms and not returning the loaned shirts, we no longer have uniforms to loan. If your student doesn't wear their Newlon shirt, parents will be called to bring the uniform or buy one. If you have a loaned shirt or pants at home Please Return it to the office.

Boletín de Marzo para Padres

Estimados padres y tutores,

Mumps Virus

February 27, 2017

Dear DPS Community,

There have been several cases of the Mumps virus reported in Colorado within the last few weeks. We are sharing the attached Mumps alert so that you have information on the signs and symptoms of this virus and ways to stop it from spreading.

Mumps is spread by coughing and sneezing or direct contact with the saliva of an infected person, such as by sharing cups or eating utensils. Mumps exposure may occur in any public place such as churches, schools, grocery stores and recreation centers. It is important that only students who are symptom-free of illness attend school.

The best way to prevent students from catching the Mumps is to have them immunized with the MMR vaccine. There are many local agencies that provide free or low cost immunization clinics. For more information regarding these clinics or your student's immunization record(s), please contact the school nurse.

DPS has not been notified of any outbreaks within our schools, so we are hopeful that the impact to our community will be minimal. We maintain close communication with the state and local public health agencies. We will provide you with additional information as it becomes available.

Thank you,

Gracias.
