A Message from the Principal

Dear parents and family,

We are so excited to be working with your student during the second half of the 2015-2016 school year and appreciate all the support our families continue to give the students of Newlon. Thank you so much.  As you are aware it is absolutely critical that we work in tandem with our families to support the success of our students here. This time of year is traditionally extremely busy. We call it “testing season.” There are several upcoming high stakes assessments on the horizon and we want to assure that our students are prepared to do their best. It is our intention that Newlon students perform to the best of their ability and there are several ways parents can support at home. Please continue to insure that there is ample space and time for your student to complete homework and read every night.

We know that with your support, our students can be extremely successful and we want that for them just as much as you do.

Student Drop-Off

For student and community safety we would like to remind you that student drop-off in the mornings, when the weather is above 32°F and it’s not raining or snowing, entrance is through the west side playground doors where the students will line up for their teachers. On days when the weather is cold or wet, all students must come in through the main front doors or the gym door to sit in their assigned area according to their grade (ECE-2^nd in the gym and 3^rd- 5^th in the auditorium). When the bell rings at 8:00, the gym door closes and students will only be able to come in through the front doors. We please ask of parents to leave the building after you have dropped of your student to avoid disorder in the hall when teachers pick up their students. After 8:10 students must come to the office for a tardy pass. 

Borrowed Uniforms

All of our Newlon students are required to wear their uniforms every day to school. Lately we have had many students come in without their uniforms and we have run out of shirts to lend. We ask parents and students to remember to bring their uniforms to school every day and if for some reason your uniform is not clean or damaged for the day, then we will lend you a shirt. We also need all borrowed shirts returned to the office so we can keep lending shirts to students who need them. Please return borrowed uniforms.

Sign-In

Another aspect of Newlon Elementary safety and security policy is the entrance to the building for all visitors and parents who stop by during school hours. The entrance to the building for our visitors is through the main front doors where visitors will buzz in once and mention their reason for visiting. Once in the building, visitors must sign-in in the office and grab a visitor pass to be able to be in the building. If you do not have a pass you will be returned to the office to sing in. We appreciate your understanding.

Commute DPS

Our Commute DPS board is more than ready to be filled with pictures of students commuting to school or from school. Along with the pictures we also need a 5 sentence handwritten letter explaining why your way of commuting is the best or why you enjoy it. There are 15 prizes remaining for the first students to come to the office. Commute Safely

Un Mensaje de la Directora

Estimados padres y familiares,

Estamos muy contentos de estar trabajando con su hijo durante la segunda mitad del año escolar 2015-2016 y apreciamos todo el apoyo que siguen dando nuestras familias a los estudiantes de Newlon. Muchas gracias. Como saben es absolutamente crítico que trabajemos en conjunto con nuestras familias para apoyar el éxito de nuestros estudiantes aquí. Esta época del año es tradicionalmente muy ocupada. Lo llamamos "temporada de exámenes." Hay varias evaluaciones próximas de gran importancia en el horizonte y queremos asegurar que los estudiantes están preparados para hacer su mejor esfuerzo. Es nuestra intención que los estudiantes de Newlon se desempeñen a su mayor potencial y hay varias maneras que los padres pueden apoyar en casa. Por favor, sigan asegurándose que haya un amplio espacio de tiempo para su estudiante para completar la tarea y leer todas las noches.

Sabemos que son su apoyo, nuestros estudiantes pueden ser un éxito y queremos eso para ellos tanto como ustedes lo quieren.

Entrada a la Escuela

Para la seguridad de los estudiantes y de la comunidad, nos gustaría recordarles que la entrada de los estudiantes en las mañanas,  cuando la temperatura está por encima de 32 ° F y no está lloviendo o nevando, es a través de las puertas del patio del lado oeste en donde los estudiantes se alinearán para sus profesores. En los días cuando el clima esta frío o húmedo, todos los estudiantes deben entrar a través de las puertas principales o por la puerta del gimnasio para sentarse en su área asignada acorde a su grado (ECE-2do en el gimnasio y 5to-3ro en el auditorio). Cuando suene la campana a las 8:00, la puerta del gimnasio se serrara y los estudiantes sólo podrán entrar a través de las puertas delanteras. Les preguntamos de favor a los padres que salgan del edificio después de haber dejado a su hijo en la escuela para evitar desorden en los pasillos cuando los profesores recogen a sus estudiantes. Después de las 8:10 los estudiantes deben venir a la oficina para un pase de tardanza.

Uniformes Prestados

Es requerido que todos nuestros estudiantes de Newlon usen sus uniformes todos los días a la escuela. Últimamente hemos tenido muchos estudiantes que vienen sin sus uniformes y nos hemos quedado sin camisas para prestar. Pedimos a los padres y estudiantes que recuerden traer sus uniformes a la escuela todos los días y si por alguna razón su uniforme no está limpio o dañado por el día, entonces le prestamos una camisa. También necesitamos todas las camisas prestadas devueltas a la oficina para que podamos seguir prestando camisas a los estudiantes que lo necesiten. Por favor, devuelva uniformes prestados.

Registro de Entrada

Otro aspecto de la política de seguridad y protección de la Primaria Newlon es la entrada al edificio para todos los visitantes y los padres que vengan durante el horario escolar. La entrada al edificio para nuestros visitantes es a través de las puertas principales, donde los visitantes tocaran el timbre una vez y mencionaran el motivo de su visita. Una vez en el edificio, los visitantes deben registrarse en la oficina y tomar un pase de visitante para poder estar en el edificio. Si usted no tiene un pase será dirigido de regreso a  la oficina para registrarse y agarrar un pase. Gracias por su comprensión.

En Camino DPS

Nuestro tablero de En Camino DPS está más que listo para ser llenado con fotos de los estudiantes en camino a la escuela o de la escuela. Junto con las imágenes también necesitamos una carta escrita a mano con 5 frases del por qué su forma de desplazamiento es la mejor o por qué lo disfrutan. Hay 15 premios restantes para los primeros estudiantes que llegan a la oficina. Desplácense de forma segura!
