Queridos Padres de Newlon,
Felicidades a todos nuestros estudiantes de Newlon por el trabajo duro y el esfuerzo que nos mostraron durante las últimas evaluaciones de CMAS. Todos estamos muy orgullosos con la seriedad que los estudiantes mostraron tomando los exámenes y esperamos ver un buen crecimiento de ellos cuando los resultados se hagan públicos a principios de agosto.

Padres, por favor recuerden que a las 7:45 am los estudiantes serán supervisados ​​en el campo de juego. Estamos de nuevo pidiendo que todos los padres y los estudiantes vayan a la zona de juegos para esperar que el día escolar comience. Semana de Orgullo Escolar y Apreciación de Maestros

Qué mejor manera de empezar el mes de mayo que con orgullo escolar de Newlon y el aprecio de profesores. A lo largo de la primera semana de Mayo los estudiantes y el personal tendrán la oportunidad de mostrar su orgullo escolar con el uso de sus pijamas, traer el pelo loco, vestirse con playeras du su equipo favorito, vestirse como gemelos, y traer su ropa desordenada. Los maestros también se celebraran por todo lo que hacen por nuestros estudiantes. Asegúrese de dejarles saber a los profesores que son valorados y queridos.

Nuestros padres y voluntarios de la comunidad han sido un gran atributo para nuestra escuela y el personal de Newlon aprecia el tiempo y la dedicación que han puesto en la experiencia de aprendizaje de nuestros estudiantes. May Parent Newsletter

Dear Newlon parents,

Congratulations to all our Newlon students for the hard work and effort they showed us during the recent CMAS assessments. We are all very proud of how seriously students took the test and expect to see good growth from them when the results become public in early August.

Parents please remember that at 7:45am students will be supervised on the playgrounds. We are again asking that all parents and students go to the playground to wait for the school day to begin. We do not have the resources to supervise students in the hallways. It is our expectation that all students meet their teachers/classmates on the playground. Please do not use the front school doors as your entry point in the morning. We ask this so that we can assure the safety of all our students.

Spirit & Teacher Appreciation Week

What better way to start the month of May than with Newlon spirit and teacher appreciation. All through the first week of May students and staff will be able to show their Newlon spirit by wearing their PJ's, having crazy hair, wearing their favorite sports gear, partnering with a twin, and mismatching their clothes. Teachers will also be celebrated for all they do for our students. Make sure to let your teacher know that they are valued and loved.

Our parent and community volunteers have been a great asset to our school and Newlon staff appreciates the time and dedication they have put into our children's learning experience. For this reason Newlon would like to celebrate our volunteers with a morning brunch and recognition certificates on May 5^th.

Developing the Whole Child through Personal Success Factors

Join Us Tuesday, May 17th for the Superintendent Parent Forum!

At this forum, we'll provide parents, families and staff with an update on work being done to deepen Whole Child efforts in DPS. We will also take a look at how schools are developing the Whole Child by focusing on Personal Success Factors which are indicators of academic and career success, and tightly linked to a student's personal skills and strengths. These factors include: Grit, Gratitude, Curiosity, Zest, Optimism, Self-Control, and Social Intelligence.

During this forum, we'll also be announcing parents who have been selected to receive the Family Leadership Award. The Family Leadership Award is an award given to parents and family members who have been nominated by DPS educators and who are making a difference in DPS. Parents and family members who have been awarded will be recognized for exemplifying one of the DPS Shared Core Values: Students First, Integrity, Equity, Collaboration, Accountability and Fun.

To honor and respect our parents' time, we will continue to combine the Superintendent Parent Forums with the ELA DAC meetings. There is a new schedule for these combined sessions:

•   ELA DAC representatives will attend a one-hour ELA DAC meeting after each Superintendent Parent Forum morning session from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

•   Lunch, interpretation, childcare, and transportation will be provided.

Desarrollo del niño como ser integral mediante los factores de éxito personal

¡Los invitamos al Foro del Superintendente para Padres el martes, 17 de mayo!

En este foro, proporcionaremos información actualizada a los padres, las familias y el personal escolar sobre el trabajo que lleva a cabo DPS para profundizar los esfuerzos de educación del niño como ser integral. También examinaremos la manera en que las escuelas se concentran en los factores de éxito personal, que son indicadores del éxito académico y profesional y están íntimamente ligados a las destrezas y fortalezas personales del niño, a fin de educar al niño como ser integral. Los siguientes son algunos de dichos factores: determinación, gratitud, curiosidad, entusiasmo, optimismo, autocontrol e inteligencia social.

En este foro también anunciaremos los nombres de los padres que han sido seleccionados como candidatos para recibir el Reconocimiento al Liderazgo Familiar. El Reconocimiento al Liderazgo Familiar se otorga a los padres y familiares que los educadores de DPS han propuesto debido a su influencia positiva en DPS. "Marvelous Me"
The 1st grade students and the 1st/2nd grade students in Ms. Rhine's room will be performing "Marvelous Me", on Thursday, April 28th at 6:00pm in the Newlon Elementary auditorium.
Please come and celebrate your child's musical achievements. They are so very proud of their efforts, and we know they would love to show their parents and friends the results of their hard work.
Earth Day
Earth day is around the corner and Newlon would like to invite all of its students and their families to involve themselves on this day and many other days. Here is a list of things you can do to help our planet stay green and beautiful:
1. Take a hike
2. Volunteer to help at a community garden
3. Clean out your closet and donate to charity
4. Plant a tree/ plant
5. Go vegan or vegetarian for the day






2nd Trimester Awards Assembly
The second trimester awards assembly is scheduled for April 12th. Teachers will notify families if their student is scheduled to receive an award. We hope you can join us.

April Testing
The 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will be testing this month for CMAS and ANet. We would like to remind parents to consider this before scheduling any appointments for your student during this time. It is essential that all students are at school to be tested. Also, please make sure they are getting plenty of rest prior to the testing window. Students are always encouraged to eat a healthy breakfast at the beginning of each day.
Remember to remind your students that they have all the potential and to do their best.

Parent Teacher Home Visits
With the Parent Teacher Home Visit (PTHV) Program, the goal is to start by building a strong and positive relationship between the family and the school.
The visits begin with the teacher asking about the family's hopes and dreams for their child. By involving the parents and families, we create a better chance of success for students. Visits don't necessarily have to take place at your home; they can also be in public areas like parks, libraries, cafes, etc. If you would like to schedule a home visit with your child's teacher, please contact the main office phone line at (720) 424-5150 or speak directly to your teacher.

Programa Musical de 1er Grado “Maravilloso Yo”

Los estudiantes de primer grado incluyendo el salón dividido de 1^er/2^do  grado de Ms. Rhine, estarán mostrando su programa musical “Maravilloso Yo”, el jueves, 28 de abril a las 6:00 pm en el Auditorio de la Escuela Newlon.

Por favor vengan  a celebrar el logro musical de sus niños y niñas. Ellos están muy orgullosos de su esfuerzo, y sabemos que les encantaría mostrarle a sus padres y amistades los resultados de su arduo trabajo.

Día de la Tierra

El día de la tierra está alrededor de la esquina y Newlon quisiera invitar a todos los estudiantes y sus familias a involucrarse en este día y muchos otros días. Aquí está una lista de cosas que pueden hacer para ayudar a nuestro planeta a estar verde y hermoso:

Asamblea de Premios del 2do Trimestre

La asamblea de premios del

Examenes de Abril


El 3er, 4to y 5to grado estarán en exámenes este mes para CMAS y ANet. Nos
gustaría recordarles a los padres que consideren esto antes de programar citas
para su hijo durante este tiempo. Es esencial que todos los estudiantes esten
en la escuela para hacer su examen. También, por favor asegúrense de que esten
recibiendo el descanso necesario antes de la ventana de examen. A los
estudiantes siempre se les anima a comer un desayuno saludable en el comienzo
de cada día. Recuerden que deben recordarle a sus estudiantes que tienen todo
el potencial y que hagan su mejor esfuerzo.



Visitas al hogar de Padres con Maestros


Con el Programa de Visita al Hogar con Padres y Maestros (PTHV), el objetivo es
comenzar por la construcción de una relación fuerte y positiva entre la familia
y la escuela. Las visitas comienzan con el maestro preguntando sobre las
esperanzas y los sueños de la familia para su hijo. Con la participación de los
padres y las familias, creamos una mejor oportunidad de éxito para los
estudiantes. Las visitas no necesariamente tienen que tomar lugar en su casa;
también pueden estar en zonas públicas como parques, bibliotecas, cafés, etc.
Si desea programar una visita al hogar con el/la maestro/a de su hijo, por

A Message from the Principal

Dear parents and family,

We are so excited to be working with your student during the second half of the 2015-2016 school year and appreciate all the support our families continue to give the students of Newlon. Thank you so much.  As you are aware it is absolutely critical that we work in tandem with our families to support the success of our students here. This time of year is traditionally extremely busy. We call it “testing season.” There are several upcoming high stakes assessments on the horizon and we want to assure that our students are prepared to do their best. It is our intention that Newlon students perform to the best of their ability and there are several ways parents can support at home. Please continue to insure that there is ample space and time for your student to complete homework and read every night.

We know that with your support, our students can be extremely successful and we want that for them just as much as you do.

For student and community safety we would like to remind you that student drop-off in the mornings, when the weather is above 32°F and it’s not raining or snowing, entrance is through the west side playground doors where the students will line up for their teachers. On days when the weather is cold or wet, all students must come in through the main front doors or the gym door to sit in their assigned area according to their grade (ECE-2^nd in the gym and 3^rd- 5^th in the auditorium). When the bell rings at 8:00, the gym door closes and students will only be able to come in through the front doors. We please ask of parents to leave the building after you have dropped of your student to avoid disorder in the hall when teachers pick up their students. After 8:10 students must come to the office for a tardy pass. 

Borrowed Uniforms

All of our Newlon students are required to wear their uniforms every day to school. Lately we have had many students come in without their uniforms and we have run out of shirts to lend. We ask parents and students to remember to bring their uniforms to school every day and if for some reason your uniform is not clean or damaged for the day, then we will lend you a shirt. We also need all borrowed shirts returned to the office so we can keep lending shirts to students who need them. Please return borrowed uniforms.

Sign-In

Another aspect of Newlon Elementary safety and security policy is the entrance to the building for all visitors and parents who stop by during school hours. The entrance to the building for our visitors is through the main front doors where visitors will buzz in once and mention their reason for visiting. Once in the building, visitors must sign-in in the office and grab a visitor pass to be able to be in the building. If you do not have a pass you will be returned to the office to sing in. We appreciate your understanding.

Commute DPS

Our Commute DPS board is more than ready to be filled with pictures of students commuting to school or from school. Along with the pictures we also need a 5 sentence handwritten letter explaining why your way of commuting is the best or why you enjoy it. There are 15 prizes remaining for the first students to come to the office. Commute Safely

Un Mensaje de la Directora

Estimados padres y familiares,

Estamos muy contentos de estar trabajando con su hijo durante la segunda mitad del año escolar 2015-2016 y apreciamos todo el apoyo que siguen dando nuestras familias a los estudiantes de Newlon. Muchas gracias. Como saben es absolutamente crítico que trabajemos en conjunto con nuestras familias para apoyar el éxito de nuestros estudiantes aquí. Esta época del año es tradicionalmente muy ocupada. Lo llamamos "temporada de exámenes." Hay varias evaluaciones próximas de gran importancia en el horizonte y queremos asegurar que los estudiantes están preparados para hacer su mejor esfuerzo. Es nuestra intención que los estudiantes de Newlon se desempeñen a su mayor potencial y hay varias maneras que los padres pueden apoyar en casa. Por favor, sigan asegurándose que haya un amplio espacio de tiempo para su estudiante para completar la tarea y leer todas las noches.

Sabemos que son su apoyo, nuestros estudiantes pueden ser un éxito y queremos eso para ellos tanto como ustedes lo quieren.

Entrada a la Escuela

Para la seguridad de los estudiantes y de la comunidad, nos gustaría recordarles que la entrada de los estudiantes en las mañanas,  cuando la temperatura está por encima de 32 ° F y no está lloviendo o nevando, es a través de las puertas del patio del lado oeste en donde los estudiantes se alinearán para sus profesores. En los días cuando el clima esta frío o húmedo, todos los estudiantes deben entrar a través de las puertas principales o por la puerta del gimnasio para sentarse en su área asignada acorde a su grado (ECE-2do en el gimnasio y 5to-3ro en el auditorio). Cuando suene la campana a las 8:00, la puerta del gimnasio se serrara y los estudiantes sólo podrán entrar a través de las puertas delanteras. Les preguntamos de favor a los padres que salgan del edificio después de haber dejado a su hijo en la escuela para evitar desorden en los pasillos cuando los profesores recogen a sus estudiantes. Después de las 8:10 los estudiantes deben venir a la oficina para un pase de tardanza.

Uniformes Prestados

Es requerido que todos nuestros estudiantes de Newlon usen sus uniformes todos los días a la escuela. Últimamente hemos tenido muchos estudiantes que vienen sin sus uniformes y nos hemos quedado sin camisas para prestar. Pedimos a los padres y estudiantes que recuerden traer sus uniformes a la escuela todos los días y si por alguna razón su uniforme no está limpio o dañado por el día, entonces le prestamos una camisa. También necesitamos todas las camisas prestadas devueltas a la oficina para que podamos seguir prestando camisas a los estudiantes que lo necesiten. Por favor, devuelva uniformes prestados.

Registro de Entrada

Otro aspecto de la política de seguridad y protección de la Primaria Newlon es la entrada al edificio para todos los visitantes y los padres que vengan durante el horario escolar. La entrada al edificio para nuestros visitantes es a través de las puertas principales, donde los visitantes tocaran el timbre una vez y mencionaran el motivo de su visita. Una vez en el edificio, los visitantes deben registrarse en la oficina y tomar un pase de visitante para poder estar en el edificio. Si usted no tiene un pase será dirigido de regreso a  la oficina para registrarse y agarrar un pase. Gracias por su comprensión.

En Camino DPS

Nuestro tablero de En Camino DPS está más que listo para ser llenado con fotos de los estudiantes en camino a la escuela o de la escuela. Junto con las imágenes también necesitamos una carta escrita a mano con 5 frases del por qué su forma de desplazamiento es la mejor o por qué lo disfrutan. Hay 15 premios restantes para los primeros estudiantes que llegan a la oficina. Desplácense de forma segura!
